Sustainability

Zola's main mission is to provide you with better, more conscious alternatives to the current clothing items available- to counter the fast fashion giants. We want to do as little harm as possible to the planet, but are also well aware, and want to make you aware, that fashion cannot be coined "sustainable".

We need clothing, especially basics ;) ,but is it at the expense of other people and the planet?

Fast fashion and consumerism and has started to overrule basic human rights, as surveys show that 93% of brands aren't paying garment workers a living wage and ever-changing trends are resulting in 21 billion tons of textiles landing up in landfills each year. If you have the means to make the conscious choice to NOT support these practices- why not?

"Consciousness": The state of being aware of and responding to one’s surroundings.

No clothing label can be fully sustainable as you’re still using resources to create a garment when there is already an excess of clothing on the planet. However, the fashion industry is estimated to employ more that 1/8th of the population, so stopping clothing manufacturing dead in it’s tracks would be severely detrimental. Instead, we can support brands who are following the most sustainable farming, manufacturing and labour practices and also making sure "sustainable" brands are transparent about where their fabrics come from and their certifications.

Certifications

At Zola, we have made sure that all the fabric we use has been certified by Ecocert and if of OEKO—TEX STANDARD 100. Ecocert guarantees that bamboo has been farmed using no pesticides, no insecticides and no fertilisers. Ok, we're off to a good start... Another third party certification body- ISO Standards is used to guarantee that many steps in the manufacturing process meet the sustainable guidelines. ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organisation that develops International Standards to provide solutions to global challenges.  Think of them as a formula that describes the best way of doing something
